Flying High

Sunday started rainy and gray, but the sun eventually broke through and made for a wonderful day. A friend introduced me to Slater Memorial Park in Pawtucket, RI. After admiring all the impressive works on display at the Rhode Island Watercolor Society gallery, my adventurous friend convinced me to take a ride on the nearby Looff Carousel, built in 1895.

Never mind the fact that we were many, many decades older than all the other riders, we paid our 25 cents and hopped aboard. I can't remember the last time I rode on a merry-go-round, but let me tell you, this thing really gets moving. I was holding on for dear life. My butt was slippin' and a slidin' and I had visions of being rocketed off across the pavilion and into the nearby fishing pond. Mr. Charles Looff was a great craftsman, and as it turns out this particular Looff Carousel is said to be the fastest in existance. No kidding.

And another reason for flying high. There are very few surprises better than yarn in the mailbox. And when it is a beautiful skein of hand-dyed, hand-spun pink and lavendar yarn from Pocket Farm, that even smells delicious, the surprise is even better. Thank you Liz!

Glad you got (and like) the yarn. :)
And, what an awesome picture of the carousel. Sounds like it was an exciting ride!
