Inspired by Grumperina's design for her sock pal socks, but too impatient to wait for her custom pattern, I've been making progress on a similar pattern for my sock pal using this design from Sock It To Me. The yarn is Opal Rodeo.
I've only made a few minor adaptations. I'm knitting it on 2 circulars. It's actually designed perfectly for this method. After a false start with size 1 needles, resulting in a sock that barely went over my ankle, I'm using size 2 . I also reduced the number of heel flap rows to 30, down from 36.
This sock is fitting me fine, so I hope my sock pal will be equally pleased. My only concern now is that sock number two is not going to match the first. I have no problem with "fraternal twin" socks, but I know some knitters put a lot of effort into perfection. Hopefully, my sock pal is more of a free-spirit.
And just because he's so cute, I share with you a photo of Max on a typical Saturday morning.
